![]() Film Festivals Friday Night was accepted into the International Family Film Festival in Los Angeles and recieved a certificate for becoming a finalist in the festival!Good News! Friday Night won a Gold Award in the 8th Annual Aurora Awards from Salt Lake City Utah. Visit their website here. Synopsis The film opens with the voice of Joanne Cooper reading from her diary. It’s nearing the end of Grade 10 for Joanne (“Jo”) and her best friends, Kristen and Lyndie, and they are in the busy high school hall between classes, talking about the party of the year, a bush party at the Anderson farm on Friday night. Everybody who’s anybody will be there. Jo is shocked when the most popular guy in school, Dan Ross, asks her to the party; now all she has to do is talk her Mom and Dad into letting her go. And she knows her big sister Sara, who seems to enjoy making her life miserable, is going delight in giving her grief about her date. Friday night, at the party, the football star of Central High, Eric McCormack, is at the center of the action. After midnight, he decides it’s time to load up the back of his truck with partiers and take a spin into town. Meanwhile, in stark contrast, Katie and her boyfriend Tim - both in their early twenties - are barely lasting through a boring movie at Tim’s apartment. Katie has to work early, so they decide she’d better head home. She gets into her car, yawns, and drives off. Back at the party, Jo doesn’t want to ride in the back of the truck, but she’s already late getting home, and her friends are calling her to join them. Finally, she piles in the back with Dan and the others and they roar off. Like any modern tragedy, forces, chance, and choices combine and collide. There is a horrific crash – the vehicles of Katie and Eric smashing at an intersection, bodies and blood everywhere. Emergency response teams arrive and the paramedics work to save who they can and rescue and comfort the others. Time passes, and a series of brief, poignant scenes detail the aftermath for the major characters, as they get ready to attend a Memorial service for loved ones lost. The film ends as the key players and their families assemble at the service, given by the popular English teacher, Mr. Taylor. They all place roses in remembrance, and in a poignant closing scene, a key character comes face to face with past regrets.
