About the Music
Here are some descriptions, written by David Archer himself, regarding various soundtracks found in the movie.
Opening Credits: This is the main theme which is heard numerous times throughout the film. I stuck with a simple piano melody and strings accompaniment in a minor key, giving a feeling of anticipation for what is to come. This movie is about a tragedy, but I tried not to make it too ominous right away. This piece has room to be developed in more exciting scenes later in the movie.
End of Party and Rescue: This piece builds anticipation for the climax of the movie, the car crash. As the kids are all piling into the truck, the piano is replaced by the electric guitar, adding to the excitement.
Memorial: The memorial scene is a time to reflect upon the tragedy and to remember the lives lost in the accident, and I wanted the music to contribute to that without getting in the way of what was happening. I chose string instruments, along with a choir background to create a sombre atmosphere, reflecting the mood of the characters.
Credit Roll: At the end of the film I wrote music to complement the vocal performance heard just before the credits. I used the piano, which had been one of the main instruments used throughout the movie, in a similar instrumentation to the main theme. This piece provides a mood which is neither very sad or very happy, but lies somewhere in between and lets the listener reflect upon the film as a whole.
